メタリカはオーストラリアのライブの数々を収録したライブEPをリリースする。

『デス・マグネティック』を08年にリリースしてから2年間ワールド・マグネティック・ツアーを敢行してきたメタリカだが、11月にいよいよツアーがオーストラリアで終了するのを記念してこのライブ盤『Six Feet Down Under』が企画され、メタリカのオフィシャルHP、Metallica.comから9月20日にリリースされる。

『Six Feet Down Under』は8トラック入りで、いずれも89年から04年にわたるオーストラリアでのライブ音源だが、バンド側で録っていた音源にあわせてファンがレコーディングしていた音源も一緒に編集して使われているという。

オフィシャル・サイトでバンドはこう説明している。「ファンのみんなのおかげでかなり上質なブートレグ音源もみつかり、それと自分たちの音源を編集して、89年、93年、98年、04年の各ツアーから2曲ずつ収録することになったんだ。しかも、よく調べてみると、俺たちがシングルのB面曲として収録する“ライブB面曲”ともかぶらない曲があったのがわかって、そういうことも手伝って、今回のEPをまとめようっていう話になったんだよ」。
