1月10日にガンで亡くなったデヴィッド・ボウイと、ベルリン3部作を始め数々のコラボレーションを生み出してきたブライアン・イーノが、ボウイの死の7日前に受け取っていたメールの内容を明かしている。

その中で、イーノは、ボウイがいくつかの変名を名乗っていたことを明かし、最後のコラボ作品となった1995年の『Outside』以来となる新たな共同創作作業についても検討していたことを明らかにしている。

メールの最後は「僕らの紡いだ素晴らしい時間に感謝するよ、ブライアン。あの時間はこれからも決して朽ちることはないよね」と締めくくられていて、署名は「Dawn＝夜明け」だったとか。

イーノは、ボウイがさよならを言っていたんだといまになって理解したという。

Over the last few years - with him living in New York and me in London - our connection was by email.

We signed off with invented names: some of his were Mr Showbiz, Milton Keynes, Rhoda Borrocks and the Duke of Ear.

I received an email from him seven days ago. It was as funny as always, and as surreal, looping through word games and allusions and all the usual stuff we did. It ended with this sentence: 'Thank you for our good times, Brian. they will never rot'. And it was signed 'Dawn'. I realise now he was saying goodbye.
