マイケル・ジャクソンの膨大な音源をまとめたボックス・セットが本日iTunes限定でリリースされたことが明らかになっている。

ボックスセットのひとつは、1978年の『オフ・ザ・ウォール』以降のアルバムとライヴ音源とを合わせた『The Indispensable Collection』、もうひとつがデモ音源やヴァージョン違い音源、リミックス音源などを収録した『The Ultimate Fan Extras Collection』で、計266曲の音源が一度にリリースされたことになる。なお、どの音源も「Masterd for iTunes」として今回新たにリマスタリングされたものだという。

『The Indispensable Collection』には、1978年の『オフ・ザ・ウォール』、82年の『スリラー』、87年の『バッド』、91年の『デンジャラス』、95年の『ヒストリー』、97年の『ブラッド・オン・ザ・ダンス・フロア』、01年の『インヴィンシブル』と12年の『ライヴ･アット･ウェンブリー JULY 16.1988』がすべてリマスタリングされて音源としてまとめられているが、アルバムごとの購入も可能になっている。なお、『The Ultimate Fan Extras Collection』はリリースごとにレア音源がまとめられた構成になっている。

どちらも6月29日にラスヴェガスで開演したマイケルの音源をモチーフにしたシルク・ド・ソレイユの新作公演『Michael Jackson ONE』にタイミングを合わせてのリリースとなっている。
